Guyana November/December Report

Proverbs 25:25- As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country.

Hello brethren and friends from the Houses in Guyana. We hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, and that you have a good and safe Christmas holiday. I know that this is a busy time of year getting together with family, friends, and our church family.

In this report we will update you from our last report on November 19th, until the present date, December 18th, 2024. We will send you another report the first of January to give a summary of the Guyana work from late April until the end of 2024.

Caribbean Workshop in New Amsterdam, Guyana

Naiome and I were blessed to attend the Caribbean Workshop in New Amsterdam from 11-24-27-2024. New Amsterdam is located about two hours down the coast from where we live in the Plaisance area. The theme of the workshop was “Developing the right attitude in suffering”. We had speakers from the States, Surname, Guyana, the Cayman Islands and other Caribbean countries. All the speakers did a great job in delivering God’s word to edify and to strengthen our faith.

Caesar Singh is the local preacher in New Amsterdam, and he has been with the congregation for over twenty years. I met Caesar in 1989 in New Amsterdam when I visited Guyana for my first time when I was a student at IBC ( Heritage Christian University in Florence, Alabama). I graduated in May of 1990. It had been 34 years since I had been back to the church there.

Plaisance and Industry Updates:

The congregation at Plaisance had a great fellowship as we had our Christmas party last Saturday [ 12-14-15]. It was well attended as we had a lot of food and gave out hampers to our older members. Witfield the local preacher, Mohan, Naiome’s brother, and me gave the church some encouragement from the word of God. Some of the ladies sang songs including Naiome. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

Industry had a workday to clean the building on December 7th. Naiome and I helped Floyd and some of the members work to get the church building clean for the holidays. The church also provided food for all the workers. It is encouraging seeing brethren working for the Lord physically and spiritually.

Personal Report:

The past month I am continuing to work with Witfield and the church at Plaisance. I am preaching twice a month, and teaching bible class. We are also meeting on Wed afternoons at 5. I am presently teaching from Psalm 119.

Sunday nights we go to Industry as I am preaching twice a month to help Floyd, the preacher there. We also go out into the field a couple of times a week to visit and encourage others. We are taking a little break for now though as there is a lot of construction going on in Industry making it difficult to drive during the holidays.

Thank you again for your support, encouragement, and prayers. We thank God for you, and we are thankful to be co-workers with you in the Lord’s work in Guyana.

Naiome’s Corner

Hello from Guyana.  Hope everyone is doing well.  We thank God daily for each of you who makes it possible for us to be here in Guyana, as we continue to work with both congregations.

We go to the local open market every Friday to get vegetables and fruits.  This past Friday we saw two members who had fallen away from the church.  Bruce spoke and encouraged them both to come back to worship with us.  One of them came to the Industry congregation with his wife this past Sunday night. Bruce speaks to like all the vendors when we go to the market 😊.

As Bruce mentioned above, we were able to help out at the workday at the Industry congregation and Floyd let me use the power washer 😊

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.  It is not a holiday celebrated in Guyana, but we did celebrate it with friends and family.  We had about 15 people over including family, Floyd the preacher from Industry, Witfield the local preacher at Plaisance and his wife and our landlord who is currently in Guyana. We had lots of food.

Bruce got a new headset, it makes such a big difference with all the noise from the fans going in the building, plus we have tin roof so when it rains its hard to hear. It’s his early Christmas present 😊

We had our Christmas holiday church get together last Saturday. We also presented Christmas hampers to all our seniors.

Bruce gave a few words of encouragement.

In our next report I will post pictures of our Children’s parties – Industry has theirs this coming Saturday and Plaisance has theirs this Sunday after morning services.

We want to wish everyone a happy holiday season.  We are thankful for all of you.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Please pray for our youngest son Daniel as this will be his first Christmas and holiday season without us.  Please pray for our oldest son Nathan and his wife as they continue to work for the Lord in foreign fields. Please continue to pray for the work here in Guyana and that many souls will continue to have open hearts to the word of God. Thank you.

In Christian love

Bruce and Naiome
